Pre-Purchase Survey
A Pre-purchase Survey starts with a complete inspection of the boat’s hull and deck for prior damage, osmotic blistering and gelcoat and paint condition. The integrity of through hull fittings, running gear and steering gear is evaluated. Percussion sounding and moisture readings are performed on hull and deck structures to check for water intrusion, construction voids, soft spots, and areas of delamination. Additionally, an evaluation of the wiring, fuel systems, electronics, machinery and any other associated onboard systems is carried out. The inspection is best performed ashore prior to launch.
After the vessel has been launched, a sea trial is performed, ensuring the operability of the engines, generators, air conditioning systems, electronics and other associated systems. Recommendations are based upon standards and guidelines set forth by American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC), US Coast Guard, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors® (SAMS®).
